SHITSTORM
2024
Sculpture, CRT television, sink plunger
17.3 x 13.8 x 31.5 in
In this work I present a cathode ray tube television reinterpreted through a minimal yet physically haunting gesture. A modified suction cup or plunger is attached directly to the screen. Its signs of wear suggest a repetitive and almost violent impact. The screen displays no program but only the electronic static noise.
In this constellation the static becomes a metaphor for those uncontrolled electronic discharges known as a shitstorm. The work makes the interface between the physical body and obsolete media technology as well as the toxic materiality of modern communication tangible.
